Organic Growth vs Paid Traffic: What’s Sustainable?
Paid traffic rents attention. Organic growth compounds it. The question is which one your business is built on.
Most technical SEO audits look identical. Screaming Frog crawl, Search Console export, Core Web Vitals sample, a hundred-slide deck with recommendations grouped by priority. The client nods, thanks you, and files it. Six months later the same audit could be run against the same site with almost identical findings.
The audit was not the problem. The backlog was.
A useful audit produces a prioritized queue of individually ship-able tickets, sized against effort and impact, with clear acceptance criteria – the kind of ticket a developer can pick up on a Tuesday morning without a meeting. What most audits produce instead is a set of themes (‘improve internal linking,’ ‘address crawl budget waste’) that no one can act on without another round of scoping.
If your last audit is still sitting in a Drive folder, don’t commission another one. Commission the work of turning that audit into a backlog someone can actually work through.
