How Website Structure Impacts Organic Search Results

Site architecture is the SEO decision most teams never revisit. It’s usually the one that matters most.

Page builders like Elementor, Divi, and their Webflow-adjacent equivalents are a perfectly reasonable tool for the first eighteen months of a website’s life. They’re fast to launch, easy for non-developers, and produce results that look fine in a screenshot.

The cost shows up on year two. Page builders ship enormous amounts of CSS and JavaScript for every page, whether the page uses those features or not. They generate deep and fragile markup that’s hard to override and harder to migrate off of. They make your content model implicit in the templates, so a redesign becomes a rebuild.

None of this matters if your site is a five-page brochure and you plan to throw it away in two years. All of it matters if your site is business-critical and you plan to keep it for the next five.

The rule of thumb: page builders for the site you’re prototyping, engineered code for the site you’re committing to.
